Decide it intentionally and don’t drift into a personality style that matches your friends. Become who youare supposed to be and enjoy yourself.

Two Questions for You

 Dear Teen,

It was a very long time ago that I was entering high school, but I still remember the excitement as well as the anxiety. There really is no way to prepare someone completely. You can visit the school, locate your locker, and even check out each of the classrooms you’ll be in. The one thing you can’t test out before you get there is how you will fit into the overall scheme of things. There are so many decisions to make–what you will wear the first day, what hair style you will have, who you will hang out with. The decisions are important to you, but others may not understand. The reality is that teens do check out the other teens around them and do make snap decisions about who is plain and who is hot; who is cool and who is not.

The information in these pages will help you make some of your first day decisions and some of your life time decisions. This will also help you decide how important the opinions of others will be in your life. Start with the article called Cool and Confident, make sure you read it before the first day of school–whether you’re going in to eighth grade or your junior year of high school, you’ll want to read it and share it with your friends. And if you’re thinking about dating already, read the article called Sex is for Marriage. It’s an eye opener about the emotional impact of relationships and will actually help you avoid a divorce in your future. Yes, your life style and dating decisions at this age definitely impact your adult life. I wish you well both during this school year and in your future.

God bless you and your friends,
